Last updated 19 September 2026
DreamBug does not require an account, show advertising, or use third-party analytics to watch a child read. Reader profiles and reading activity stay on the device.
The reading app
No DreamBug account or email sign-up is required to read. The app does not send us a child’s reader profile, shelf choices, favourites, or reading progress.
What stays on your device
The app saves information on the device so that profiles, personalisation, parent controls and reading progress work:
- Reader profiles, including a first name or nickname, a boy or girl selection, an age band, and a chosen avatar
- Which page of a book was last open and which books have been marked as favourites
- Your parent code, selected library background, and per-reader shelf settings
This information is not sent to a DreamBug account. Device and operating-system backup behaviour is controlled by Apple and your device settings.
No advertising and no tracking
DreamBug contains no advertising, no third-party advertising software, and no analytics or attribution software. We do not use the device advertising identifier, we do not build a profile of your child, and we do not track anyone across apps or websites.
Parent-facing links and controls
Parent settings and the subscription screen sit behind a parent gate. Parent-facing areas may include links to DreamBug support, this privacy policy, and Apple’s subscription terms. A parent gate is a helpful boundary, not a substitute for adult supervision.
Subscriptions and payment
If you subscribe, the purchase is handled entirely by Apple through your Apple account. We never see or receive your payment details. To manage or cancel a subscription, use Settings on your device, under your Apple account.
To know whether a subscription is active, the app reads entitlement status from Apple using StoreKit.
Website contact form
If you choose to contact us through the DreamBug website, we receive the name, email address, topic, and message you submit. We use those details to read and answer your message. They are separate from the child profiles and reading activity held in the app.
The website sends contact messages through Cloudflare’s email infrastructure to DreamBug’s support inbox. You can avoid the form and contact us directly at [email protected].
Children's privacy
DreamBug is intended for children to use with their families. The app does not require children to create an account or send their profile and reading activity to DreamBug. The website contact form is intended for adults.
Your rights
Information stored by the app is controlled on your device. If you have contacted us and want to ask about a message held in our support inbox, email [email protected].
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the new version will be published on this page with a new date above. If the app’s data practices change, we will explain the change clearly here and in the app where appropriate.
